WAR Machine

In Afghanistan, an unnamed Staff Sergeant loses his brother (Jai Courtney) and the rest of their convoy in a Taliban attack and suffers a severe knee injury while trying to carry his mortally wounded brother back to base. Two years later, the Sergeant attends RASP as Candidate 81 (Alan Ritchson), determined to get across the finish line that marks the end of the selection process. After 81 allows himself to nearly drown during an underwater exercise, Sergeant Major Sheridan (Dennis Quaid) and First Sergeant Torres (Esai Morales) question his mental state due to his PTSD, but allow him to advance and assign him team leader for the final exercise, the Death March. During the exercise, the team finds a strange-looking object that transforms into a walking machine and begins targeting and killing them. The group realizes the machine is extraterrestrial and tries to make it back to base, but only 81 and 7 are left alive. After seeing the machine send a mysterious signal into space, 81 realizes it has a ventilation system and pours gravel into it, causing the machine to overheat and explode. 81 successfully makes it back to the damaged Ranger training base with 7 and is accepted into the 75th Ranger Regiment. Sheridan and Torres reveal that the suspected asteroid was actually an army of alien machines that have started a global war with humankind, and after 81 reveals the machines' ventilation system is a weakness, he is assigned to lead the next assault against the machines.
