“Though pop newcomer Haley Vassar’s roots are in Nashville, her latest release is a coast-to-coast effort. “Can’t Fall Slow,” which premieres here, was written in Music City and produced in New York with a video shot in Los Angeles,” writes Billboard contributor Deborah Evans Price.
As the daughter of country music hitmaker Phil Vassar, the 20-year-old Nashville native is already making a name for herself as a singer-songwriter in the pop world. Earlier this fall, she premiered a first listen to “Can’t Fall Slow” on AXS.com and completed her first national television interview with Celebrity Page TV where she opened up about writing the infectious single and recording with producer Swagg R’Celious (Kehlani, K. Michelle).
Pop Dust ranked Vassar as an artist “Ready to Pop,” as contributor Jason Scott wrote: “With a father named Phil Vassar as one of the late-’90s, early-’00s reliable country music hit-makers, it’s a bit surprising Haley Vassar dives headfirst into lethargic, moody alt-pop so effortlessly. Still entrenched in heartfelt songwriting, “Can’t Fall Slow” is a dream-like wonderland, capped in patches of snow and a vocal that’s subdued and frigid. That’s not to say there’s not a loose and feathery quality; it’s a magical mixture of breeziness and slow-burning tension.”
Gaining attention from major radio stations, press outlets, and even having her name mentioned in Vogue as a fashion trendsetter, Vassar is just kicking it into gear. On a hot streak following the release of “Alright,” a girl power pop anthem that screams independence and fierce confidence, Vassar fired back with the release of “I Know I Shouldn’t (Dark Side).” Vassar seeks to create a collection of pop music infused with classic influence, combining the elements of rock, r&b, dance and the blues. LA’s AMP radio said it best, “Don’t sleep on Haley Vassar, because this is a pop star on the rise.”
