NASHVILLE, Tenn. – As their Smart & Safe Florida campaign blazes on to over one million signatures, the Bellamy Brothers roll out their Old Hippie Stash Mobile for 4/20. The duo enlisted artist Mark Hannah, known for his sign painting and mural work in many local and regional areas in Central Florida, for the psychedelic transformation of a 1978 Volkswagen Westfalia. Along with Trulieve, Florida’s largest medical marijuana operator and the Bellamys’ partner on their Old Hippie Stash product line, the Bellamy Brothers announced the Smart & Safe Florida campaign last year. Smart & Safe Florida’s initiative is to implement safe and common-sense cannabis regulation. The proposed constitutional amendment would allow recreational use of marijuana by people 21 or older.
The Bellamy Brothers’ Old Hippie Stash product line debuted in Trulieve stores across Florida in 2020. Named after the iconic country duo’s hit song “Old Hippie,” which topped the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, Old Hippie Stash launched with the initial strains Big Love and Reggae Cowboy. Following a sell-through rate of 90 percent during launch, Trulieve added the strain Afterglow in May of 2020. Old Hippie Stash expanded to West Virginia last year.
Widely known as an “international symbol of country music” (CMT.com), the Bellamy Brothers recently wrapped the final leg of their World Reboot Tour. Their most recent project, 40 Years: The Vinyl Album, celebrated the Bellamy Brothers’ journey to fame that started on the pop music charts in the ‘70s and took a winding turn into country music in the ‘80s. Produced by David and Howard Bellamy along with Randy Hiebert, the project includes “If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body,” originally scrawled on a dinner napkin by David, which rocketed them to the top of the country charts the way “Let Your Love Flow,” the project opener, had done in the pop market just a few years earlier.
