NASHVILLE, Tenn. – One year ago today, the Bellamy Brothers partnered with Florida-based medical cannabis provider Trulieve on their Old Hippie Stash flower product line. To celebrate, David, Howard and Trulieve Chief Marketing Officer Valda Coryat joined Marijuana Doctors for an interview and giveaway.
Named after the iconic country duo’s hit song “Old Hippie,” which topped the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and celebrated 35 years in 2020, Old Hippie Stash launched with the initial strains Big Love and Reggae Cowboy. Following a sell-through rate of 90 percent during launch, Trulieve added the strain Afterglow in May of 2020. Old Hippie Stash is available in Trulieve dispensaries across Florida.
“Partnering with local brands is important to Trulieve so when we began speaking with the Bellamy Brothers about building a brand in Florida that gets at the Bellamy Brothers roots and plays off their song, “Old Hippie,” we were excited to help bring this to life for the patients in the state,” said Chief Marketing Officer, Valda Coryat. “It’s been fifty years ago this month that 420, a movement made popular by hippies, came to life so this anniversary is relevant. The Bellamy Brothers launch a year ago of Old Hippie Stash was met with great enthusiasm and sell through rates — and their performance remains a hit in our premium partner category.”
Afterglow is a heavy Indica that can be best described by the definition for the term; a good feeling remaining after a pleasurable or successful experience. Afterglow is known for its intensely enjoyable flavor and long-lasting effects, perfect for putting your feet up and relaxing after a long day. After using Afterglow, many users feel very relaxed in mind and body with a sense of focus. The flowers are large bright green, with orange hairs and a coating of frosty trichomes. The flavor is a delicious mix of fruity and sour citrus notes with a light herbal creaminess on the exhale. The aroma is earthy, fruity and sour citrus with a subtle diesel and fuel component.
Reggae Cowboy is a 50/50 hybrid which produces light purple buds with mossy green highlights. The flowers are covered in an abundance of trichomes and have a frosty appearance. The aroma of Reggae Cowboy is very floral and spicy with subtle pungent undertones. The taste is similar to the aroma in that its spicy and smooth with a light skunky finish. Reggae Cowboy packs a punch, this flower will provide a wave of tranquility and relaxation. The mellow sedative effects are accompanied with a tingling sensation throughout your body.
Big Love is a well-balanced hybrid that yields deep green flower with vibrant purple hues. The aroma from this strain is very piney and sweet. The flavor is rich and earthy up front with a piney finish. Effects one may feel when using Big Love are euphoric and cerebral. This hybrid provides an uplifting experience that will wash away the stresses of your day.
When the stay-at-home orders took effect in 2020, the Bellamy Brothers were on the road with Blake Shelton for his Friends And Heroes Tour. They returned to their Florida homestead where their hit reality series is filmed and along with the Trulieve partnership, stayed busy through the release of their Bucket List EP and premiere of “Honky Tonk Ranch” season two on Circle. Most recently, the Bellamy Brothers released the video for their “No Country Music For Old Men” collaboration with John Anderson, which has amassed over 1 million views and received praise from Rolling Stone Country, The Boot and Country Rebel.

ABOUT BELLAMY BROTHERS:
David and Howard Bellamy continue to prove the trail they’ve ridden to fame has been as unique as their music itself—music that is now celebrating more than 40 years of success. The road that started on the pop music charts in the ‘70’s, took a winding turn into country music in the ‘80’s, paving the way for duos to come, such as Brooks & Dunn, Montgomery Gentry, Big & Rich and The Judds. “If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body (Would You Hold It Against Me),” originally scrawled on a dinner napkin by David, rocketed them to the top of the country charts the way “Let Your Love Flow,” had done in the pop market just a few years earlier. It proved to be the first of a string of 14 No. 1 singles in the U.S. alone. They’re the only U.S. country music act who’ve toured in India, Sri Lanka, New Caledonia and Qatar. The Bellamy Brothers hold the record in both the Academy of Country Music (ACM) and the Country Music Association Awards (CMA) for the most duo nominations. Numerous Grammy nods have also been directed toward the brothers. The Bellamys are also opening up their lives to television audiences with their reality show, “Honky Tonk Ranch.” Each episode captivates viewers by the unpredictable misadventures the Bellamys face while balancing their globe-trotting touring schedule while running their sprawling family ranch in south Florida. “Honky Tonk Ranch” is executive produced by David Bellamy and directed, shot and edited by Derrek Kupish, CEO/founder of dkupish productions.
