NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Rising artist Cameron Hawthorn “represents an exciting new future for country music (American Songwriter)” with his new single, “To Break Hers,” available now. “To Break Hers” is an honest look back at a relationship that was a stepping stone to moving forward and accepting Hawthorn’s sexuality. The song was written by Hawthorn and Lena Stone, later produced by Greg Bates. Hawthorn’s vision to give the song the emotion it needed was to have the piano and vocals swimming in a bed of pedal steel guitar, creating a somber, “lost at sea” feel. The official music video for “To Break Hers” also premiered on CMT.com today.

American Songwriter exclusively premiered the official music video for “To Break Hers” on their Daily Discovery Series:
“While the imagery of the song’s music video remains on the heteronormative side — especially when it seems to normalize the negative reaction of Hawthorn’s ex-partner when she learned about his true identity — the song itself is still a statement of acceptance, both personally and universally. All in all, the fact that Hawthorn can share this intimate slice of his life story in such a poignant way is a victory for both equality and country music alike (American Songwriter).”
The emerging crooner made a buzz in 2019 with his single, “Dancing In the Living Room,” with the accompanying music video garnering over 260k views for the independent artist and coverage from the likes of People Magazine, CMT, and Huffington Post. With the underlying theme of showing your truest, most vulnerable self, Hawthorn set out with the desire to deliver listeners the message that ‘love is love.’
“I dated women before coming out and this song is about one relationship, in particular, that was ‘going great’ until I abruptly ended it. I’ll never forget my break up with her. Her uncontrollable tears and how blindsided she was. When you break someone’s heart, you carry that with you. I needed to write this song to let go of that, an apology for stringing her along when I knew it wouldn’t last.” Hawthorn shared.

ABOUT CAMERON HAWTHORN
Cameron Hawthorn defies genres as an American singer-songwriter. His stunning vocals and songwriting blend elements of Country, Americana, Folk, and Pop/Rock to put him in a league of his own. Hailing from a small town in Kansas, he attributes his years of growing up in the Midwest to the authentic and honest storytelling found in his music. Influenced by legends like Johnny Cash, Elvis, James Taylor, and Fleetwood Mac, Hawthorn aims to make music with the same raw narrative – pure and real, classy and classic. He combines that with the spunk and pop sensibility of more current artists like Shania Twain and Eric Church. Hawthorn released his single “Oh Hot Damn!” in July 2019 followed by his steamy line dance music video that was featured on Huffington Post and CMT. This is only the beginning for Cameron Hawthorn as he sets his eyes on an EP release for 2020 and much more to come down his yellow brick road.
